ON VIEW: KRITIKA MANCHANDA

PRACTICE OF A DRESS

Kritika Manchanda is an artist and designer born in India and based in New York. Her artistic practice primarily engages with craft and textile, exploring themes of identity, space and the fragility of memory. Her work revisits clothing, objects and other artifacts from her earliest childhood memories. Fine layers of textile, delicate underthings and found objects are starched and compressed into preserved art objects. Manchanda creates works that seem to exist in a state of altered dimension, dissolving the boundaries between the materiality and the memory. She was recognized with the 2018 CFDA Geoffrey Beene Award and was a finalist for the 2019 Gucci Design Fellowship Program.
